A Series Of Posts On Worship: Why & What Do You Rehearse?

So, we probably all rehearse. In fact, I’m willing to say we ALL rehearse something – we might just be the ones who rehearse “winging it” or the spiritual equivalent “being moved by the spirit”. Some of us do that. Some don’t. Some of us have stop watches that document our exact length of songs so that we can execute the service knowing that at the designated “sync” time – we can go to the video feed.

Here’s the reality. We all rehearse something. Why? Why do we rehearse?

A Series of posts on Worship: Worship in church

Worship in church is an incredibly broad and sweeping topic – so I’ll get right to it.
Our worship services are ALL about WORSHIP – every part of them being an act or an opportunity to WORSHIP. Nothing is exempt. If it IS exempt in your mind, or in the mind of your pastor or denomination, then you have the right to ask them why it isn’t an act-of or opportunity-to worship. If they can justify that it isn’t worship – they also need up justify it’s place in that service.

If I Am The Leader – Who Do I Serve?

Makes you think, doesn’t it? I get comments all the time. Comments like, “Well, it’s your job to find the volunteers…it’s your job to play in the band if we are short a person…it’s your job to be really good musically…it’s your job to be prepared at rehearsal and know what’s going on… Etc etc.”

While there is the obvious truth to their statements, there is an implied statement they DON’T say …”It’s not my job, I’m just a volunteer, I just serve.” Read the rest of this entry »

The question of practice…?

As a musician I understand the value of practice. As a church music leader I know the value of practice. As a worshiper, I understand the value of practice. But sometimes those around me, or those I lead, or even those in some different ministry environments don’t value or understand the value of practice and preparation.
